Naked Filmmaking - Buy The Book
This book is about my brand of one-man filmmaking - what I do and how I do it. From the motivating philosophy to the practical how-to of making a no-budget film entirely without a crew. Everything I can think of from how to come up with a script that can be shot without production assistants, money -- or permits -- to lighting, sound recording, editing. Everything you need to get started towards making your own movies.
In keeping with the total independent theme of my method of filmmaking I am also planning to self-publish.
The book is written and has been sent out to people who I trust and respect to get their feedback and input. Just this morning I received the following email from actor-writer Anthony D’Juan (“Dubois” in Nightbeats):

I wish I could come at this as though I wasn't blowing smoke up your ass. I've been contemplating for days on how to approach you about your book because what I don't want to do is give the God-figure impression of your existence.
I will say you've composed something important. Something straight forward, conversational (a writing style I'm not too wild about, to be honest; it's a little too David Sederis for me...and David Sederis can kiss my ass!), devoid of bullshit and wonderfully pitched. In short...I like the book...a lot!
It doesn't just apply to filmmaking. It applies to art, over all. In fact it has LESS to do with filmmaking all together since the topic you're dealing with deems itself an impossible accomplishment as it stands.
No.
What this book does is it reminds the artist NOT TO WAIT! It tells the painter to paint. The writer to write. The composer to compose. It tells the artist to build a web site, quit with the excuses, pull your head out your ass or get out -- period! Unlike the horrid filmmaking books of the past and present -- who encourage one to traipse about Hollywood while discouraging the artist of their vision -- this one says "it can be done." There is no two ways about it. It's BECAUSE of your book (which I finished last week, by the way; took a night and read it in one night) that I have decided to go the self publishing route with Deconstructed -- via CreateSpace -- and stop waiting. I'm editing. A lady friend of mine, in L.A. is editing; I'm trying to come up with the cover art -- which I don't know how to do but I am now willing to figure out. Ian sent me an image -- which I've attached to this email -- but he still hasn't read the book so he doesn't get it...it's hard to figure out WHAT I WANT, and yet I keep seeing an image, similar to the cover art for The Buena Vista Social Club of a man -- distorted image -- walking along the mid-town side walk smoking a cigarette. Or simply a sidewalk and all that surrounds it...I just don't know.
But that's not the point of this email.
The point is to thank you. You set out to write a book and you did it. You finished it. Most filmmakers are so busy trying to figure out how they can, now, be famous that they won't take the time to give back. You did! You gave back! You did so better than any God-fearing person would EVER do and I truly appreciate it.
We shall talk soon.
- Anthony
Anticipated publication of the book will be sometime in Spring 2010. All transactions will be handled thru Paypal.
Send me your e-mail and I will put you on the notification list for when the book is nearing completion. Until then bookmark this page for further updates and information on the book and the films.
